Couples Intensives
1-Day and 2-Day Relationship Intensives
Sometimes weekly therapy sessions don’t provide enough space to fully explore what’s happening in a relationship. When couples feel deeply stuck in painful patterns, a more focused approach can help create meaningful progress in a shorter period of time.
Couples intensives offer extended, dedicated time to work on your relationship without the usual interruptions of daily life. Over one or two days, we slow down the conflict patterns that keep couples stuck and work toward deeper understanding, emotional connection, and practical strategies for moving forward.
Intensives draw on evidence-based relationship approaches, helping couples understand the emotional dynamics beneath conflict while also learning practical tools for communication and repair.
For many couples, the intensive format allows for deeper conversations and breakthroughs that can be difficult to reach in shorter weekly sessions.
Who This Service Is For
Couples intensives can be particularly helpful for partners who:
- feel stuck in repeated arguments or communication breakdowns
- experience emotional distance or disconnection
- want to rebuild trust and strengthen their relationship
- prefer a more focused alternative to weekly therapy
- have limited availability during the week
- want to make significant progress in a shorter timeframe
Some couples choose an intensive when they feel their relationship is at a crossroads and they want dedicated time to focus on understanding each other and deciding how to move forward.
NOTE: Intensives can be a lot for neurodiverse couples, we recommend giving us a call to discuss shorter intensives (90 mins – 3 hours) for our neurodiverse couples.
What You Can Expect From Sessions
Intensives are structured but also flexible depending on each couple’s needs.
Prior to the intensive, couples typically complete a brief intake process so we can understand the history of the relationship and the main areas of concern.
During the intensive, sessions include a combination of:
- guided conversations to understand your relationship story
identifying and mapping patterns of conflict or disconnection - exploring the emotional experiences beneath those patterns
practicing new ways of communicating and responding to each other - developing strategies to strengthen connection and prevent recurring conflict
Many couples find that the extended format allows them to slow down conversations that normally escalate quickly and approach them with greater clarity and understanding.
The goal is not only to understand the difficulties in the relationship but also to help couples leave with practical tools and a clearer path forward.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are intensives suitable for all couples?
Intensives can be very helpful for many couples, but they may not be appropriate in situations involving ongoing domestic violence, coercive control, or situations where one partner feels unsafe. If this is a concern, we can discuss alternative support options. Intensives can be a lot for neurodiverse couples, we recommend giving us a call to discuss shorter intensives (90 mins – 3 hours) for our neurodiverse couples.
Is an intensive better than weekly therapy?
Both approaches can be effective. Some couples prefer the focused nature of an intensive because it allows them to dedicate uninterrupted time to their relationship and make progress more quickly. Others prefer the gradual pace of weekly sessions.
Will we solve all our problems in one intensive?
The goal of an intensive is not necessarily to solve everything immediately, but to create meaningful progress in understanding the relationship patterns and developing healthier ways of communicating and connecting.
Many couples continue with follow-up sessions after the intensive to support ongoing change.
What happens after the intensive?
Couples may choose to continue with periodic therapy sessions to build on the work completed during the intensive and maintain the progress made.
